There is growing evidence that Reiki and sound-based therapies can help calm the nervous system and support relaxation, stress reduction, and emotional regulation.*
The Science of Reiki
Reiki & Nervous System Regulation
Reiki is an energy-based practice in which a practitioner channels gentle, focused intention through light touch or near-body presence. While its mechanism remains an active area of inquiry, clinical research points to a measurable physiological response: Reiki consistently activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the body's rest-and-digest state, as evidenced by reductions in heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol, alongside increases in heart rate variability (HRV). Researchers connect these effects to the vagus nerve, the body's primary parasympathetic highway, which links the brain to nearly every major organ. When vagal tone improves, the nervous system becomes more resilient and better able to move out of fight-or-flight and return to a state of calm, regulation, and repair.*
Reiki works with energy, and because everything carries energy, it can be experienced both in person and virtually. This practice is known as Distance Reiki and is traditionally introduced at Reiki Level II.
A practitioner attuned to Reiki Level I is trained to facilitate self-healing and support the natural flow of energy through hands-on practice.
At Reiki Level II, practitioners learn Distance Reiki techniques, allowing them to channel Reiki energy across time and space, offering sessions virtually as well as in person.
Level III, or Master Level Reiki, represents a deeper level of study and mastery. A Reiki Master is qualified not only to practice Reiki, but also to teach, guide, and attune others to the practice.
Lea is attuned at the Level III, Master Reiki Practitioner level, and also offers Reiki attunements for those called to explore the practice more deeply.

✶Benefits✶
Heart rate
Measurably reduced vs. placebo in controlled trials
HEART RATE VARIABILTY/HRV increase
Increased HRV is a marker of better stress resilience and a calmer, more relaxed state
Cortisol reduction
Lower stress hormone levels documented post-session
Vagal tone
Improved vagal activation links the brain to body regulation

THE SCIENCE OF SOUND HEALING
Sound Bath & Brainwave Entrainment
Sound healing works through vibration, frequency, and nervous system regulation. During a sound bath, instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and tuning forks create resonant waves that are both heard and physically felt throughout the body.
One key mechanism is brainwave entrainment, where repetitive sound patterns may help guide the brain from active beta states into slower alpha and theta states associated with relaxation, meditation, and calm focus. Low-frequency vibrations may also stimulate the vagus nerve, activating the parasympathetic “rest and restore” response.
The 432 Hz frequency is often associated with harmony, relaxation, and emotional balance within wellness communities. While there is limited scientific evidence proving unique healing effects specific to 432 Hz, research does support broader benefits of sound meditation practices, including:
Reduced stress and anxiety
Nervous system regulation
Improved sleep and relaxation
Slower heart rate and breathing
Enhanced mindfulness and meditative states
Some sound healing theories also reference vibroacoustic stimulation and cymatics, the study of how sound vibrations create patterns in matter. Because the body is composed largely of water, many practitioners believe sound and vibration can deeply influence emotional and physical well-being. This dual pathway, through both the auditory system and physical vibration, is what gives sound baths their distinctive, full-body quality of release.*
*Sound baths are considered complementary wellness practices designed to support relaxation, balance, and mindfulness, and are not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Significant reductions in tension, fatigue, and depressed mood
Stress hormones
Cortisol and blood pressure reduced across multiple studies
